Miriam was born in Zamora, Michoácan, Mexico and immigrated to the United States in 1996 giving her first-hand experience with the struggles that Latino families face. As both a first generation high school and college graduate, Miriam is a strong supporter for equity and inclusion in education. In various roles over the last 10-years Miriam has been a strong advocate for the Latino community in the Willamette Valley and is driven to help improve the lives of those around her. She is also the mother of two young children -- one who is Special Needs -- and has advocated and promoted special services for children like her son. With her experience in outreach and fundraising, Miriam brings skills to Casa Latinos Unidos that will help develop and grow our community so that all our families have the resources they need.
We would also like to give a big THANK YOU to Claudia Torres!
With the arrival of Miriam, we say farewell to Claudia Torres, our Executive Director since September 2018. For the past two years, Claudia has led the organization with clarity and dedication by expanding our direct assistance, cultural, and leadership programs. Under her leadership, Casa Latinos Unidos has enhanced its grant and gift programs and strengthened our system of partnerships with local and state-wide organizations and agencies. Among Claudia’s many accomplishments during her tenure, we highlight the role that Casa Latinos Unidos has come to play supporting families as they navigate the difficult times during the COVID-19 pandemic. We can say with certainty that Casa Latinos Unidos is now stronger because of Claudia’s leadership.
